Journey to Mythienia

Oesarumé stood in the frost covered gardens of the castle watching the fruit trees branches sway in the breeze as she listened to the lilting song of the pipes she played. It was one of her favorite things she had done since she was a girl, letting her lips pass over the air instrument she played and weaving a little Air magic into her song with her breath to give the song more complexity and allowing the sound of the music to carry throughout the entire castle. It was as easy as drawing breath for her to manipulate the magic of Air, and her Elemental companion had come to join her as she played, listening to her song and toying with the long strands of her multi-hued white and silver hair in its translucent tendril like fingers as it gamboled to and fro across the gardens, appearing to be nothing more than a strong breeze until you saw its face.

“Oesa, when are we going to set out for Mythienia?” The Air elemental asked her, laughing delightedly as it spun around the fountain and played with the water, splashing the ground all around in delight.

“We will depart when Seun’dule has finished crafting the staff I must carry with me so that the heat of the other countries does not affect me whilst I am away from our home.” She chuckled softly at her friend, setting the silver filigreed pipes back to her lips once more to complete the song, her eyes still gleaming with mirth and magic.

“Oh yes, you spoke of that earlier. Forgive me, in my excitement I forgot of the preparations that had to be made.”

“Mmm, of course I do. You know very well that I cannot stay long outside of our realm without the cold. The staff will allow me to make the journey to Mythienia without worrying about being exposed to the warmer climates.” Oesarumé smiled, putting away her pipes in the pouch at her hip and lovingly caressing the leather for a moment before she spoke of the journey ahead. “It will be treacherous traveling alone, but with you I shall have advanced warning of any dangers we may face.” She said thoughtfully, thinking back to earlier that morning when the scroll appeared in her hands summoning her to the Island of Mythienia. She couldn’t help but grin like crazy as she read the scroll aloud to her daughters and they had all cheered for her, insisting loudly that she go. Her husband had smiled knowingly and sat down to finish crafting the Ice Staff she would need for her journey.

“Yes, yes!” Ventus cried giddily. Neither of them had left Nemagus in over a century. “I shall spy them all before they can harm my Oesa!” The child-like Elemental said bravely, twirling up a branch in its form and holding it aloft as if it were a staff. “Then we shall defeat them all!”

Oesa laughed merrily, the musical sound of her voice ringing around the garden walls in a joyous tone as she delighted in the spectacle her friend was making. Clapping her hands she cheered the brave Elemental as it came near to her, pantomiming marching with the sword resting on its imaginary shoulder. “Ah, thank you kind spirit. How shall I ever repay you?”

“Sing! Sing! Sing!” It cried out loud, cheering her in return as it dropped the branch, all bravery cast aside for the time being as it swirled around her in encouragement.

“All right, all right, I’ll sing.” Oesa laughed merrily, her eyes gleaming with a little more magic as she began to sing their waulking song of old.

Amharc, mná ag obair

Lá's mall san oích,

Ceolann siad ar laetha geal, a bhí,

Bealach fada anonn’s anall a chóich.

The song she sang was instantly harmonized by the Air elemental and the two of them sang the song together as the made their way inside the castle to collect the Ice Staff from her life mate. This song was similar to the liltling song she would often sing whilst traveling with her age old companion, the two friends often going on long walks through the frozen forest. This time she would leave the woods and travel far beyond her home. Kissing her daughters goodbye and embracing Seun’dule lovingly she gave each of them one last kiss and strode off, singing happily.

Ó lá go lá, mo thuras,

An bealach fada romham.

Ó oíche go hoíche, mo thuras,

na scéalta nach mbeidh a choích'.

As she came to the edge of the woods Oesa paused glancing ahead of her at the green expanse of hills and the meadow that her home connected with at the border. It was a beautiful sight to see, the waving grasses and the tiny blue and yellow flower sprays that dotted the landscape here and there. It wasn’t the same as walking through the magnificent Ice forest of her home, but it would be close enough as every step she took would turn the ground to ice as she passed by.

The magic of the staff she held in her hands would transform the air and ground around her so she could make the journey without harm, as she moved to the edge of the forest she whispered the words that would activate the crystals that decorated the staff she held and a gust of wind blew up from her feet, spreading snow and ice all around her and outwards for a five foot radius.

“Be with me, always. Day and night.” Oesa spoke the words softly to herself once again as she had spoken them to her family not hours before, at last taking he first step out of the woods to begin her journey to Mythienia.
